St Marys Church Over SiltonThe ancient Church of St Mary’s dates from the 12th century and is situated in the rural parish of Over Silton, 8 miles from Northallerton.

Lying half mile from the village of Over Silton, in a secluded hollow, St Mary’s has been extended over the centuries, though not modernised. With no electricity, on darker days services are still held by candle light.

The church is always open to the public. There is never a bad time to visit and appreciate all it has to offer, spring is particularly lovely when the wild daffodils are in full bloom.

Friends of Over Silton Church

The group was formed to help maintain and preserve St. Mary’s. With a dwindling congregation, the church would have inevitably become redundant, resulting in complete closure.

Funds are continually needed to maintain the fabric of the building, and just as previous generations have given generously to preserve St Mary’s it is now our turn to ensure that this piece of history, and our heritage is kept alive though volunteer work and fund raising activities.
